Outdoor Adventure at Green Meadows Petting Farm in Central Florida

OinkNeighMoo….Did you know we have one of the most amazing petting farms within the Central Florida area? Well, it’s true! On a “fall like day” in Florida (which we all know is rare), we spent it outside exploring Green Meadows Petting Farm. It was our first experience with our little ones in enjoying a “hands-on” adventure while learning and interacting with so many animals…AND we can’t forget about the amazing train ride and tractor ride! Choo Choo…

(This is a sponsored post, all my opinions stated are my own.)

When you enter into the farm you are blown away by how big it is and the many activities that are offered! We packed our lunches and spent a full day at the farm! Our little ones loved every minute of it! Their little eyes lit up by all the amazing activities they encountered. So, are you thinking a family day here would be fun for you as well? What’s included in the guided tour?

When you enter onto the farm you’re greeted by the welcoming staff along with a cute General Store and fun fall displays, which is a perfect opportunity to take those fall photos if you haven’t done so already. In this post I’m relating it to the fall season, but the farm is most definitely open all year long!

On the guided tour the tour guide takes you through the farm on all kinds of learning adventures about their animals! So many opportunities to interactive with the farm animals! This is a place that definitely explores many of our senses, which is a perfect learning environment for all children (and adults)!

On the farm you will…

  • Learn all about pigs, cows, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, donkeys, Elmer—our Asian water buffalo and more!
  • hold baby chicks and chickens
  • Milk a cow!
  • Train ride
  • Pony rides for children
  • Tractor-drawn hayride
  • Picnic areas for those bringing a lunch
  • Drinks and snacks available at The General Store

*This is all included with the price of your admission ticket, no added costs for the train rides, tractor rides, or pony rides.

Extras

Green Meadows also offers fun playground experiences for children! There are playgrounds, slides, and fun climbing adventures throughout the whole farm! After the guided tour it was a perfect opportunity for our little ones to let our their energy and have a blast playing together!

Recommendations

After experiencing a day on the farm here is some feedback I gathered to make your trip even better!

  • Plan on spending a full day on the farm! I would recommend getting there earlier in the day so you can experience everything they have to offer!
  • Pack a lunch! While they do have a General Store, mostly the food items are snacks.
  • If you have little ones either bring a stroller or you can purchase a wagon for $5. (which was a big hit with our little ones) The farm is huge and their little feet may need a break every now and then.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing!

When will you be visiting the farm?

It truly is a fun filled day that will leave you with wonderful family memories!

Exploring Blue Spring State Park

These past 2 months we have enjoyed family visiting us all the way from the Midwest! It has been very exciting to share with my family some of our favorite spots within Orlando. By now, you probably already know that I am intrigued by the many beautiful state parks within Orlando. This past week we actually discovered a new state park that is just Northwest of Orlando, Blue Spring State Park.

img_5214

Since living in Orlando for 5 years I have yet to explore this serene area, until just this last week. I always hear people say wonderful things about it, so I knew I would eventually get out there (only about an hour drive from Orlando). Whether you live within the surrounding Orlando area, or will be visiting here soon, this is definitely a place to recharge and enjoy what mother nature has to offer.

I created a video for you to experience just a few of the things that I was able to capture. Please excuse some of the flaws within this video, it’s definitely a learning experience for me and I know it’s not perfect.

(Quick story time! My camera died on me, so I used my iPhone and totally did not realize I should have turned it horizontal for a landscape view! Duh, Amanda! RIGHT?! Anyways, it’s still a great video because…you’ll see manatees and a little red-headed boy!) =)

Information

  • Cost: $6 per vehicle (2-8 people) OR $4 single occupant
  • Hours: 8am-sunset (365 days a year)
  • Dogs are permitted, but must be kept on a leash.
  • If you’re going with little ones I recommend bringing your carrier or stroller.
  • Manatee season runs from mid-November until March (you’ll be able to see them right on top of the water).
  • The spring runs off the St. John’s River and temperature stays around 73 degrees.
  • Guided river tours are offered during the day at 10am and 1pm (for reservations, call St. Johns River Cruises at (386) 917-0724)
  • You can swim, snorkel, and scuba dive (make sure to call for more details).
  • Enjoy a self guided tour of the historic Thursby house, which was built during the steamboat era.
  • You will find pavilion areas, a playground, huge grass area, picnic tables, concession stand, kayak and other rentals.
  • Enjoy a stroll along a boardwalk (one-third mile walk).
  • Tube along the spring, rentals are provided. (click here to view other State Parks that also offer tubing.)
  • Primitive camping along with cabins are offered.

Just a few Facts

  • Blue Spring is a winter refuge for the Manatees.
  • While visiting you will possibly see herons, turtles, alligators, and many fish & birds
  • You can click here to be directed to a live camera of the manatees!
  • Once you arrive they will provide you with the “count” of manatees for that day.

Have you been to Blue Spring State Park? If not, this is definitely a place to put on your list of places to visit!

Exploring Bill Fredrick Park

This past weekend the Florida Morehouse family finally spent an afternoon exploring a unique landmark in Orlando. It’s been soooo long and I missed it! We’ve been very busy with opening our gym, and our little boy’s first birthday that “exploring” was put on a hold for a while. I’m excited to share with you a beautiful park that features so many amenities for a family outing! My husband was laughing at me about my giddy excitement (it’s the little things that make me happy). img_3246-1

Bill Fredrick Park is 183 acres of land along the Turkey Lake, which is filled with not just a scenic view, but many recreational activites. This list is ridiculous! The best part is your enjoying the beautiful Orlando weather! (well, most days… we actually went on a cold cloudy day, but still had a great time)

Children’s Farm

Nature Connect Trail

Sand Volleyball

Boat Dock

Fishing Pier

Horse Shoes

Disc Golf

Playground

(^one for older kids and a Tot Lot)

Softball

Swimming Pool

Wedding Gazebo

Primitive & RV Camping

Cabins

I told you, right?! So MANY activities! Any nature lovers out there? This is definitely your spot in Orlando.

Someone thinks he’s a “big kid”. Always playing in the mulch!

Huge “big kid” park! (I even enjoyed it, I guess I’m a big kid at heart!)
img_3206-2
I spoke with a wonderful lady who tends to the farm animals and she shared with me that this farm is actually a shelter for animals that could no longer be cared for. It’s NOT a petting farm, but you could just tell in the animals eyes that they enjoyed people visiting them. They came right to you. It’s a viewing farm only.

So many horses! They really liked following Johnny.
