Can someone please explain to me why Mason Jars are so appealing? Lately I’ve found a new obsession! (I tend to do that.) Think about all the ways you can use Mason Jars…candles, storage for food, coasters, container for diy scrubs, flower vase, supply orgnaizer, and so much more! I stepped away from the wood, paint, and tools for a bit to focus on a different category of diying.
This Friday I’m sharing with you an easy way to make your home smell fresh & clean all within a Mason Jar. I’m taking you through the steps of how I made my own air freshener using baking soda, essential oils, and a few other added natural ingredients that are completely optional.
I had a fabulous helper as well! I’m telling you, Little Johnny’s future wife is going to seriously LOVE me, haha! I mean this kid enjoys cooking, “chores”, and apparently now he LOVES to whip up a homemade all natural air freshener…
I learned the trick of “baking soda absorbs everything” since I was a young girl. I even remember it being in our fridge! This is the secret to keeping the smell of the essential oils alive & going throughout your home.
There’s something about walking into your home where you’re immediately welcomed by a lovely smell. I chose to create a fresh & clean fragrance to use within my living room, but this recipe (really it’s just baking soda mixed with your favorite essential oils) can be used with any combination of oils.
I wish there was a “smell button” on the computer…maybe that’s where we’re leading our next generation to create…;) Let’s hope, right?!
I had this Mason Jar already painted using an ombre technique, but I just didn’t know what to do with it, so I decided why not use it for this project! You can totally just skip the spray painting part.
So, what’s the steps? Well, it’s really easy and I have to be honest I definitely didn’t measure anything, just kind of guessed. The thing that I love about this is it’s not an overwhelming fragrance. You can make a few different combinations so that each room has a different smell.
I feel as though giving your home a certain fragrance in each room is essential to setting the mood & feel of what your trying to create for each room. Every fragrence within a home gives off a different sense of character, feel, and can also bring back many memories.
Peppermint & Lemon Air Freshener
(with a hint of coconut)
-peppermint essential oil (probably 8 drops)
-2 drops of lemon juice
-about 1 1/2 cups of baking soda
-1 tablespoon of coconut oil
Mix well and place in a Mason Jar. Then use a nail and hammer to poke holes through the lid so the fragrance will ventilate throughout the room.
Every few days you may have to shake it up a bit just to get the aromas going again. If the smell is fading, then that’s your que to make a new batch. 🙂
Go ahead, give this a try! It’s an easy one and the best part is you know exactly what ingredients you are breathing in throughout your home. Did you ever think about that? (I know I’m a bit more cautious now since having a little one.)
Wishing you well,
Happy Mama, Happy Wife, Happy Life
