Say what?! A 1 year old has a routine?

Yes, call me crazy, but I’m the mom who follows a routine (well at least I try my best). Routines help to keep me sane! I rely on them to keep us going throughout the day because once we stop..uh oh…yeah, I’m just not going to go there.

We are currently into the stage of pre-toddler (12-18 months) which is a HUGE transition for little ones and their mamas.  It’s gotten to the point where I need to revamp our daily routine to meet more of his growing needs.

I was hesitant with writing this post because it seems kind of boring to me. Although once I thought about it I love reading about other moms and their little one’s daily routines. It’s fun to be nosey, right?!

My daily routine with my little one is a template, some days we semi follow it, and some days we’re just totally off track #momlife. BUT it’s nice to know that it’s there to rely on.

We have quite a few activities that we are involved in throughout the week, so that’s another reason why sometimes our schedule is tweaked. (Can you tell we like to keep busy?) 😉

>>Weekly Activities<<

Monday, Wednesday, Friday—->Mommy & Me Kickboxing  at 10am

Tuesday—-> Tinkergarten class at 10-11:15am (we just signed up and I’m so excited!)

Thursday—-> Mommy & Me Circle Time at 11am

>>Daily Routine<<

Between 5:30am-6:00am it’s wake up time!

Why so early? I have no idea, speak with my pre-toddler on this one. When he woke up this morning I actually tried to bring him in my bed and just sleep a little longer, but he just wasn’t having it. SLEEP IN little one, SLEEP… IN.

6:00-6:30am Breakfast time! and COFFEE, COFFEE, COFFEE for Mama!

He’s been quite picky lately, but usually on the breakfast menu it’s a  banana, whole grain waffle with peanut butter OR oatmeal, and then he washes it down with some whole milk. Delicious, right?!

6:30-7:00am Hygiene time!

We wash his face & hands, and brush his teeth. Then we get changed for the day. He’s not a happy camper about the whole changing thing.

7:00-8:30am Play Time & Baby TV

I am NOT a morning person! It takes me a while to feel fully awake and to get going for the day. BUT apparently someone is! So in order for me to actually drink my coffee and feel ready for the day I need this time. We play in the living room while watching Baby Einstein or another baby tv show.

8:30-9:00am Walking our Doggy & Snack Time!

It’s always nice to start the day with a beautiful morning walk, especially in Orlando. Generally the mornings are so peaceful. Johnny enjoys these walks and likes eating his snack. Usually for a snack he either has fruit & veggie pouches, cut up apple slices, or lately he’s been enjoying freeze-dried edamame. On some morning walks I take this time to listen to a podcast, lately I’ve been listening to Focus on the Family.

9:00-9:30 Structured Play Time

I know this may sound silly, but I’ve been reading the Baby Wise Pre-toddler book and it states that little ones at this age really need moments where they’re taught how to play with their toys or have some type of adult interaction with an activity. Here are just a few activities that we participate in:

  • read a story
  • play with his educational toys
  • work on fine & gross motor skills
  • play with his puppet
  • play peek-a-boo/ hide & seek

Sometimes I like to switch things up, so I found this great resource through that offers unique activities for your 1 year old that you can participate in.

9:30-10:30ish Morning Nap Time

Phew, we made it to this time! 😉 I say “ish” because it varies, but generally it’s within this time frame. I use this time to take a shower, clean up in the kitchen, and sometimes blog.

11:30-12:30 Lunch Time

Now that he’s transitioned into whole milk it’s just easier to eat lunch at home before we go out on our adventures for the day. Here are a few things we eat for lunch along with his whole milk (well, lately we’ve been attempting to eat lunch… Johnny is in a phase of eating a few bites and then throwing the rest on the floor! Oh the joys!)

  • pasta & veggies
  • quinoa veggie burgers (Aldi find)
  • grilled cheese sandwich on whole grain bread with avocado
  • crackers with humus, cheese, & some type of fruit or veggies (lately it’s been mandarin oranges)
  • or sometimes we just eat leftovers for lunch

1:00-3:00pm Outside Time, Errands, & Snack Time

This is the time we play at a park, visit daddy at work, or run some errands.

3:00-4:00pm Afternoon Nap Time

I try to use this time to get house chores done or prep for dinner, but lately I’ve been using it as a down time for myself. I’m currently working on refinishing a desk I found on the side of the road.

4:00-5:00pm Outside Playtime & Evening Walk

This is something new we’ve incorporated into our daily routine. Johnny loves just going outside and leading me to things he wants to explore. Sometimes we play with chalk & bubbles. We also use this time to take our doggy on an evening walk.

5:00-6:00pm Dinner Time

Sometimes I end up making dinner while Johnny plays in the kitchen. He received the Leap Frog Fridge Numbers Magnetic Set as a Christmas gift and it has saved me while trying to get things done in the kitchen! There are days though where making dinner just has to wait and Johnny eats leftovers from the previous night.

6:00-7:30pm Bath Time & Bed Time

Phew! We made it through the day. I recently wrote a blog post about our bedtime routine that you can visit!

Do you have a daily routine?

What are some things that you try to incorporate into your day?
