Bedtime Routine for an 11 month old

If you haven’t figured out already, I am a HUGE routine person. It’s what keeps me balanced and capable of having a successful day. (I know I’m not the only one, anyone else?) A bedtime routine is something that has helped my son to wind down for the night and nestle into his bed. You’re probably going to ask the big question… does he sleep through the night because of this? The answer is NO I’m not a miracle worker in that department, but what the bedtime routine has done is helped my son to go down for the night without many difficulties (we’re down to him just waking up once throughout the night, and I’ll take that!). Some nights he goes right to sleep once I lay him in his crib, other nights he has to “play” it out in his crib. He doesn’t cry, he just gets really goofy and slowly drifts to sleep.

I’m writing this post because our bedtime routine is my favorite part of our day  (not just because we’ve reached that time of day, although that’s nice too!). We do all the same things each night, occasionally there are nights when we skip bathtime if we’ve been out and about in the evening. This post isn’t about having a “perfect bedtime routine”, it’s about what works for us.

Bottom line is, it’s always fun to know other moms routine, and sometimes I even learn from them! (it’s fun to be nosy too! haha) Below you’ll find our bedtime routine that works for us in our household. (there may even be some things that you currently do, and it’s always fun to make connections!)

Bedtime Routine

First stop..bathtime! Currently we’re using Johnson’s Baby Bedtime Bath (it has a great lavender smell). Previously we have used Babyganics and Aveeno Baby Wash & Shampoo.

This is always fun… putting lotion on a squirmy baby and trying to get a diaper plus pajamas on! Oh the joys! 🙂

Next up, we brush his teeth. I have Johnny try to brush his teeth first to practice his fine motor skills, then I jump in at the end and brush his teeth. I sing the song “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” while brushing his teeth. (by the way, this was advice from my mom who is a dental hygienist, so I had some help in this area!)

This is something I recently added to our bedtime routine. Sometimes Johnny needs to “play it out” before going to bed, so I let him play with his toys for about 15 minutes before settling in.

While Johnny is playing I have Pandora’s baby lullaby radio on. Before I put him to bed I also put on the white noise app. We’ve used these apps since he was a newborn.

Processed with VSCO with b5 preset

And finally we read “The Going to Bed Book” (same book every night) and I feed Johnny his bottle, then lay him right into his crib.

What’s your bedtime routine with your little one?

I always love hearing from people, so feel free to share your insights in the comments below! You can also share this post with anyone else and follow me on my facebook page,  as well as instagram. Thank you so much for taking the time to read!

Wishing You Well,

Happy Mama, Happy Wife, Happy Life
