Visiting Painted Oaks Academy Pumpkin Patch {Pumpkins + Baby= CUTENESS}

Pumpkins & Babies, Ahhh! Cuteness overload! Fall is such a great opportunity to practice taking your own photo shoots! If you need inspiration, you can visit my previous post on DIY fall photo shoot. There are so many different scenes you can set up for fall photography. Of course, during the October month you have to get some pumpkin photos in, so that is exactly what we did this weekend! After the storm had passed and things started to get back to normal we decided to get out and have some fun! We met another family with their sweet baby boy at the Painted Oaks Academy Pumpkin Patch, which is located on the East side of Orlando (Oviedo). It was a Sunday outing with LOTS of baby photos, and Johnny picked out his own pumpkin (plus he did the honor in picking one for his mama too!)

The Painted Oaks Academy is an equestrian center where they provide horse back riding lessons, and camps. During the month of October they offer a pumpkin patch to the public, along with other fall festivities. There are some great events coming up, so make sure to click this link to be directed to the ‘mane’ event page.

As we walked up to the pumpkin patch, we were greeted by some ‘neigh’borly friends, horses of course! Johnny was able to pet a horse for the first time, Caesar was his name. It was such a beautiful day to explore this pumpkin patch and we were so thankful with the shade of the Florida tress to keep us even cooler and out of the sun. You’ll leave refreshed from the scenic intake and the Florida breeze, now that it’s starting to cool down just a little.

If you are in the Orlando area you should definitely check this place out!

Tips & Tricks

  • Find a spot that you can set your baby down and just let them explore. This was how I was able to capture some of the best shots! (Make sure to always check the ground first for safety!) You can also bring a small blanket if you feel more comfortable.
  • Let your baby lead the photo shoot with their personality. My son Johnny is a very textured baby, so I enjoyed  capturing pictures of him just touching and examining the pumpkins and hay. I didn’t get many straight on photos, but I think this was more natural for him.

  • In my opinion, props are not needed, the pumpkins, hay and earthy texture will enhance your photos more than enough
  • get high, get low, get on the ground basically try out all different angles and perspectives
  • make sure to occasionally check your photos to see if any adjustments need to be made, especially with lighting

  • play around with the natural lighting, shoot towards the sunlight and with the sunlight, there is no right or wrong (we went during a bad lighting time 3pm, but I was able to work with the lighting to my advantage)
  • baby feet, hands, back profile, and side profile always make for great images
  • mostly, just HAVE FUN!

[Most of my photos were take with the iPhone 6, but then it died and I reverted to my canon SX10, which I’m still learning about. If you want to learn extra tips and tricks about the iPhone 6 camera, click this link to visit my previous post.]
